Illustration for article titled PSA: Dont Travel With Your Sonic Screwdriver

If you’re a fellow Whovian, I just thought you should know that you should not travel with your sonic screwdriver replica from The Wand Company. Specifically the “Twelfth Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver” with the spring action emitter. They will most definitely search your bag, as I was stopped on my to and return flights with this in my backpack. On the way back I even saw the screen that identified it as a suspicious object. I’ve travelled with my Tenth Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver from The Wand Company in the past without any problems. I think the fact that this is a large hunk of metal with electronics may have spooked the TSA. Each time I got my bag search I had to own up to my nerd and geekiness, when they beffudledly asked “Doctor Who?” Exactly. I was tempted to just call it a vibrator and see if that got me through. But no, each time I went with, “it’s a tv remote wand replica of the Doctor Who sonic screwdriver.” And then a lot of defending my nerdiness, which I own anyways, but confused them because I wasn’t wearing some cliche nerd outfit.

In the end, if you are contemplating taking your sonic screwdriver for a ride on a plane, think again, or at least be prepared to get your bag searched!
